What is the School Council?
It is really important that your time at Durrington Middle School is happy and productive. We want to know what YOU think about school issues and if YOU have ideas on how to make this an even better place to be.
The School Council is a way of making sure that every student in the school has a ‘voice’ as your views are listened and responded to effectively.

Who chooses the School Council?
You do! At the beginning of each new school year every student in the school is asked whether they would like to stand for election as a class councillor. If they want to, they are asked to present a short ‘manifesto’ (kind of like a advertising speech) to their class, after which all students vote. The person with the most votes becomes the Class Councillor and will represent the views of their class at each School Council meeting.
What will a School Council do for me?
Basically, a School Council gives YOU a voice. Your opinions on issues to do with school will be listened and responded to. Before each School Council meeting your Class Councillor will hold a meeting in class and you will be able to discuss any issues you have then.
They may also discuss matters raised at School Council that they need
YOUR opinion on.
How do you get something discussed at a School Council meeting?
Easy! There are two main ways to get your voice heard;
· Raise the matter at the next Class Council meeting. These are usually held the week before the next School Council meeting, but check with your Councillor to be sure.
· If you want your voice heard ‘anonymously’ simply write your idea down and post in the post box. These issues will be collected by councillors and brought to the next meeting.
